StatementMy most recent body of work consists of densely layered landscapes zipped through with loopy linear marks inspired by roller coasters, ferris wheels and other carnival wonders. I am thinking about the way the land rushes by as one's body twists and turns upside down on an amusement park ride and the resulting visual distortion of the space around us. I am interested in exploring how to use observation and how to defy observation. Roller coaster rails turn as if pulling the sky with them and the loops defy the laws of physics. At times, the landscape of paint becomes so dense and jungle-like that it threatens to swallow the rails like kudzu vines. I try to achieve relationships within the color palette that reflect color relationships I observe in the landscape, but I often key these up chromatically to reflect my amusement park sources.
